The story behind the art

Created in 1911 by artist Wassily Kandinsky, this design was made as the cover for The Blue Rider almanac, a publication that marked a turning point in modern art. Kandinsky was one of the pioneers of abstraction and believed that color and form could express ideas and emotion without relying on realistic imagery.

For this work, Kandinsky combined simplified figures, bold shapes, and strong color contrasts. The rider on horseback appears almost symbolic rather than realistic, reflecting his aim to move away from traditional representation and toward a more expressive visual language. The composition was intended to suggest movement and energy.

Today, the artwork stands as an early example of modern abstraction, offering a dynamic and creative presence. Its strong colors and graphic structure make it a distinctive piece that adds artistic confidence and visual interest to a contemporary interior.
